The Studio Story
BIG Winter Classic isn’t a music festival, it’s an arts festival. Studio is a place for our visual talent, a space for expression and the perfect community connector. Now into our third year, Studio 2020 is shaping up to be bigger than ever.
In our first year, 18 local artists covered more than 1,200 sq. ft. with original work at Calgary's Gerry Thomas Gallery for the month of January.
During our festival weekend the gallery transformed into an official venue. Festival goers took in shows by Daniel Romano, Jay Som, Jung People, The Wet Secrets and more, all in the midst of local art. It was an incredibly creative and open space, and we were overwhelmed with the level of engagement.
In year two we set Studio free, setting up micro-galleries at each of the BIG Winter Classic venues. Art hung on chain-link fences throughout the festival weekend.
Studio also partnered with four local craft breweries on two totally unique beers for our festival weekend. Local artists submitted label designs, and we had a vote to decide the two winning festival labels.
Studio is sure to be bigger than ever in 2020. Now into our third year, we’ve figured out who we are and what we’re trying to do. Whether it’s filling space on gallery walls or collaborating with craft brewers, Studio is dedicated to promoting visual arts over our festival weekend and beyond.
Stay tuned for details and watch this space for ways you can get involved in BIG Studio 2020.
